The Francesco vineyard is located in the Madonna dei Monti locality in Grazzano Badoglio, at an altitude of about 350 meters above sea level.
The exposure is south-southwest and ensures that the vineyard receives the warmth of the sun, which allows the grapes to ripen perfectly.
The soil consists of a predominance of clay (45 percent) and for the remaining fraction of silt and sand in equal parts.
The geological formation is part of the ‘Tonengo arenites’ dated to about 14-15 million years ago.
The Francesco vineyard consists of four parcel in which we wanted to plant typically Piedmontese and Monferrato varieties, the result of research and recovery of old clones.
– The first parcel is Baratuciat, an ancient white grape variety that has almost disappeared and has found excellent conditions in Monferrato for its agronomic characteristics.
– The second parcel is Grignolino, a native variety par excellence of Monferrato. Here we have an important collection of more than fifty old clones recovered from vineyards now grubbed up.
– The third parcel is Barbera, the most classic grape of Piedmont, whose rootstocks were obtained from a clonal selection made in-house from a vineyard planted in the 1940s.
– The fourth and last parcel is Nebbiolo ,one of the noblest grapes of our region and beyond.
For all the above, the Francesco vineyard best represents for our company the recovery, conservation and enhancement of biodiversity.
